General Ride(s) 8/14/21

Image
Took off this morning on the Raleigh for just a general ride around -- someplace . . . . Turns out I did the Conservation Club Loop ride.  Around 7 miles total Following photos are from a stop at the North Fork of the Vermilion River just south of the Conservation Club.   Vegetation along the north bank of the stream.  The silvery leafed trees in the background are interesting Raleigh at the North Fork Looking west with soybeans at the upper right Some sort of vine is creeping over the guard rail Morning Glories Some sort of vine-like weed Looks pretty invasive like Kudzu, but it isnt Kudzu, too far north for that View south (the way I came) up the back slope of a moraine Raleigh about to continue north, then west and back to town   Later in the afternoon, a 3 mile ride, an out and back, produced the following number of mini booze bottles Most common is the Fireball Cinnamon flavored whisky bottle Kinky Pink?? Some sort of peppermint (schnapps?) bottle which ha...

Ride to the Park, Flat Tire, and Garage Sale

Image
Le Tour ready for a ride across town, around the park and return Did we have an issue? Yes, we did.  Having rounded the park and heading back east toward home, the rear tire went instantly flat turning from 6th Avenue on to Elm street. So began a mile and a half trudge with the Le Tour hobbling on its rear tire. Halfway home, I decided to try a CO2 inflator, and hoping against hope the tire may become ride-able at least for a short distance.   Didn't happen, went flat again as quickly as it did the first time.  Onward east.   Here is the culprit, once located at the intersection of 6th and Elm, it now resides across town in the garage Tube repaired, and tire casing super-glued, all is well again Bicycle frame now a bracket for a garage light Strained glass bicycle pin wheel Another frame for a garage lamp  A very nice find at the garage sale -- except for the fact it wouldn't pump.  :( After a long long time of investigation it was found the part that ...

Schwinn LeTour 3/20/21

Image
Ever since my 1976 Schwinn Traveler was stolen I have been keeping an eye out for it -- that was in 1994.  Posted Wanted to Buy on Craigslist and hoping against hope after all these years someone would see the ad and respond. I was assuming that after all this time it may have changed hands and the current owner might be willing to part with it. No such luck. This is a page from the 1977 Schwinn Catalog which shows the Traveler Mine was a 25 inch frame and the serial number indicated it was made in 1976 but badged for 1977.  The colors and graphics are a match for the bicycle I had Kept an eye on Craigslist and Facebook Market place since you never know what might show up. That eventually led to this:   Now, that isn't a Traveler, it is the next step up, a LeTour which is what I was going to buy in the first place. And, it is very similar with upgraded components. Time to pull the trigger, 'cause this is unlikely to happen again. Digressing just a bit:  A mishap occu...
