Schwinn World

Another jewel shows up at JR's Recyclables

Maybe some new derailleur cable?   Maybe??

Believed to have been made for Schwinn by Giant Bicycles in Taiwan

A rather unusual handlebar position to say the least

Checking serial number on the bottom bracket

Back on its wheels, still at JR's

It is home!

Durst Cycles in Urbana, IL --- been there for a very long time

Some serious clean up is needed

First examination --- the tires held air, the handlebar was rotated to proper position, 4 spokes were broken on the rear wheel (freewheel side of course) and the derailleur cables obviously need to be replaced.

Major clear up is in order

Cleaned up!

New cables, replaced spokes, all adjusted and ready to roll

Derailleur cables yet to be installed at this photo point

Will add some pin stripes here and there to brighten it up a little

Stripes added

After 'exhaustive' research to find its year of manufacture . . . . . the answer was right in front of me but took some doing to discover that fact.

The answer was on the head badge -- a stamped number indicating the day of the year  e.g. 355 followed by the year, in this case 1988 -- indicated by the 8:  3558

This was born out by the graphics used and also two other Schwinns of known manufacture date stamped on their respective head badges.

All of the above is correct -- except -- while made in late 88 it was painted and graphics applied for the 89 selling season

Below is a photo from the 1989 Schwinn catalog

Catalog shows a black World, but it was acually offered in 'Racing Red'
