Zizzo at Kickapoo 5-6-24

The opportunity once again presented itself for an expedition to Kickapoo State Park,

A naturally reclaimed coal strip mined area near Danville, Illinois'

Once slated for closure, the efforts of one little girl to keep it open aroused the people of Vermilion County, and then Governor Blagojevich, yes that Governor Blagojevich, changed his mind and allowed it to be kept open, while other state parks were closed.

So, thank you Governor Rod!!

Leaving the Walnut Pavillion headed west

Decision was to stay on the 'flatter' parts of the park this time

Z attains the astonishing speed of 6.5 mph

Z arrives at the Mountain Bike trail head

Rain yesterday morning may have made the trails too muddy
Z did not investigate

No other mtn bikers around

Leaving the trail head -- Z would probably do ok on the novice trails -- not so sure I would

Those are alpacas back there

Re-entering KSP from the Mtn Bike trail head

Relativity flat roads, low traffic, courteous drivers

Z at the Inland Sea boat ramp

View across the Inland Sea

Emerald Pond

Rolling back to Kickapoo Park Road
The black speck above the left cloud is a hawk circling the area

Back on Park Road, a turtle was crossing about halfway across the road
Oncoming vehicles were some distance off, whether it would make it in time is another question.
Z stops and assists said turtle to safety
Kind of a Trans Am tradition isn't it?

Another little scoot and turtle slides across the gravel even farther from the road

Hard to see it isn't it?

Z rolling toward its ride back home  :)

Unpaid endorsement:

That is a great bicycle - may look a little (a lot) awkward -- rides beautifully

At $229 and free shipping, what's not to like?
