Conservation Club Loop with Dave and Dwight
Dwight's new ride!
A Polygon Strattos
Heading north on Euclid Avenue
Rich is riding sweep to ensure those two guys dont get lost ;)
Turned on to 7th street -- proceeding north
Google Street View has very little coverage of Hoopeston
Kind of a half a**ed (if that) route thru just parts of town
The former Brown's Woodworks -- then an antique store, both of which are closed today.
People (apparently) would rather travel 50 miles round trip to Danville rather than pay Brown's somewhat higher prices.
Use it or Lose it
Former Gulbranson Organ factory
>knows next to nothing about organs, but Gulbranson was said to be pretty good<
Started by a man here who drove around town in a Rolls Royce
How times have changed
Now occupied by a paint accessory distributor
Heading east on Thompson Avenue -- although at this point known as 4200N
The Thompson brothers owned the land which would become the NE quadrant of town
Corn is looking pretty good, but it won't be if we don't get rain -- and soon
Moraine crest on the horizon
About to turn south on 1700E
Sign in for the North Fork Conservation Club
"Fish Fry Every Saturday"
Dave and Dwight headed south to the line of trees and North Fork river
Dwight's Polygon rolls along
At 92 years young, Dwight is just flat out amazing
Polygon and Circuit taking a break
As is the Raleigh
D an D in deep contemplative thought concerning the mysteries of the Universe
Or
Maybe they are just bullsh**ing :)
Severe drought here, if not for groundwater feed, the NF would be dry
Not moving at all
Ascending the fore slope of a moraine
The North Fork flows between moraines, eventually breaches another and flows on south
To the Vermilion River, then Wabash, Ohio, and Mississippi
Heading south on 1700E
Ascending another swell in the moraine
Roadside grasses and flowers
Dwight turns west on 4000N
West on 4000N
The tan mound behind the trees is a landfill
Dave and Dwight pedaling along the land fill
Refuse collectors no doubt deserve far more respect than they get
We would be in a world of hurt without them
Field of winter wheat nearly ready for harvest
Continuing west on 4000N to 1450E
Then north to Dwight's place
Approaching the western part of town
Still on 1450E aka Dog Pound Road
Back at Dwight's place, bidding fond farewells for a very excellent ride
We rode quite a bit straighter than what the map suggests!!
Yellow back to Dave's and purple back to mine
Nothing to do with anything, Just a Bob Ross "Happy Accident" photo
