No Cycling Today :(

Image
The Diamond Back Parkway is parked today -7F ~-20 something C Balmy by Northern Tier standards, but pretty dern cold Having mucked up the Edge on Monday on wet treated roads -- I couldn't stand it, so off to the car wash at 20 something F, and after skating around washing all the stuff off, and a good spray of the chassis, it was home to a heated garage to finish things up.  (After a certain period of allowing the ice to melt off) The point being, that is how the humidity got into the garage Heater is turned off at night  Following are some photos of the garage door windows the following morning with now solidified water vapor on them The orange glow is the sun shining on the house across the street Surprising  the Nikon CoolPix did as well as it did taking these photos

C ulvert C oncrete The WPA – which in 1939 was renamed the Work Projects Administration – employed mostly unskilled men to carry out public works infrastructure projects. They built more than 4,000 new school buildings, erected 130 new hospitals, laid roughly 9,000 miles of storm drains and sanitary sewer lines, built 29,000 new bridges, constructed 150 new airfields, paved or repaired 280,000 miles of roads and planted 24 million trees.                                                                                              History.com

Solid deck of status clouds Status becoming Fracto Stratus Fog! Road leading to the Land Fill -- over the years the lane used by the inbound loaded trucks can be distinguished from the outbound unloaded ones Moon in a clear blue sky Of course, after a day of solid cloud cover, as the sun sets, the sky begins to clear

Misc Rides October

Image
A few photos from several rides in early to mid October 2012 Grassy road with some interesting patterns Channelized former outlet (one of several) from glacial lake Watseka Vine climbing a tree Dark cotton wood leaves among very green roadside grass Diamond Back on 4000N Le Tour at CSX railroad All that green is corn which sprouted from kernels that ejected from the combine             Or....... Someone is experimenting with Winter Corn similar to Winter Wheat   ??? That's Warren the Wolly Bear caterpillar Crossing the road from east to west Lucky for Warren, after taking the video, he was picked up, (he rolled into a ball as is their habit) and was tossed westward to his perceived destination Not 30 seconds later, a giant truck came over a rise and surely would have flattened poor Warren Now he has the chance to become a beautiful moth next spring Wolly Bear Information

October Challenge Photos ----- Cycle 365

The Booze Tourz This is Warren or maybe its Wanda the Wooly Bear Caterpillar (its hard to tell) The wide orange band indicates a mild winter.  Caterpillar was crossing the road east to west when the video was made.  Dangerous place to be, so it was given a boost to what was its destination.  Shortly thereafter a giant truck came over a rise and surely would have flattened him/her. I suggested a bicycle for a faster crossing, but was told it couldn't find one with that many cranksets. All about wooly bears

Conservation Club Out and Back Ride

Cool, cloudy, humid morning, little wind and with none of the predicted rain Raleigh, sans its kernel status, is ready to go  -- said it looked a little too corny First stop is along some errant soybeans Looks like Raleigh has sprouted an appendage of some sort . . . .  The combine doesn't capture all the beans -- these may have blown out the back   Ready for harvest Oooops!  Somebody is missing a bag of seed corn Treated with a fungicide   The next day they were all gone -- someone got a free sack of seed A few days later, here it happens again -- ???? Odd -- not the time of year to be hauling seed corn -- two similar spills very close to each other -- second spill, bag was completely empty Both bags labeled Goodwine Site of the original spill     Intersection of 4000N and 1700E Is the Raleigh about to surrender? Deep ditch at an abandoned railroad right of way What is that pennant the Raleigh is sporting?   THAT's what it is! Raleigh is ...
