240 Years Cycle to Rankin, IL

That is roughly the combined years of age of the 3 of us who ventured west to Rankin, Illinois.  We had been talking about a longer jaunt than the usual loop around south of town and today was the day. So. Dave. Dwight. and Rich head west.  Two Raleighs and a Novara Rondonee. My Raleigh and a very decrepit shed just across the alley from Dave's place Met up with Dwight and here we are descending the slope into one of the outlets of glacial lake Watseka Under extreme precipitation conditions it still sort of functions to drain water southward Thats Dave on the left with Dwight in the lead I'm riding sweep to ensure they don't get lost or left behind  ;) Way down the road a sprayer refills with pesticide for the soybeans Dwight either is or is near 90 years old! Schwinn Circuit

Schwinn Circuit at JR's Recyclables This bicycle was literally pulled out of a container of scrap metal bound for the shredder Little was it known the seat post, handlebar stem, and bottom bracket cone were very very stuck Circuit is a 1987 No bicycles were made in Chicago since 1982 Its more organized than it looks Circuit arrives at home Rusty Gold ---Heh! Not good but not a big deal Rusty Cinelli  :) Clean up time The Circuit was the top end fully assembled bicycle Schwinn sold that year The Paramount was the ultimate Schwinn, but sold as the frame only Appears much blacker after a rub down and soaking in WD 40 and then STP tire shine Mechanical work in progress The seat post and stem remain remarkably frozen in place Both are at an acceptable height, so that is a big deal Neither ever came loose The expected trouble loosening the freewheel didn't develop No kickstand on this racing bicycle One is on order -- not having one is very inconvenient Lock ring and adjustable cup...

River to Rail 2025

 River to Rail ride 2025 Fund raiser for completion of the Kickapoo Rail Trail  -- which when completed will connect Urbana and Danville, Illinois -- ~ 27 miles Began at Kennekuk County Park with 30, 50, and 60 mile routes We chose the 30  mile route with some modifications We began with Ryan Van Duzer's Mantra: NO Crashies, NO Flatties , NO Whammies!!! Here riders are arriving and some beginning their chosen route Steve and Dave prepare their machine s 140 or so riders participated My 1994 Diamond Back is ready!  We didn't have the fanciest bicycles, but surely the oldest Dave and Steve at Registration Steves recumbent 'tadpole' trike, my Diamond Back, Dave's Trek 930 -- made in Waterloo, Wisconsin -- yes, its that old On our way out of Kennekuk Park Rural Fire Station Rest stop at the Kickapoo Mountain Bike trail head --- 8 miles in at this point, roughly half way Trestle over the Middle Fork river 90 feet below Rest stop at Oakwood Illinois,  15 miles from t...
